NFSA WISH US A MERRY CHRISTMAS
October 1, 2013

The lovely folk at The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) in Canberra, have given all Gotye fans an early Christmas present! A nearly 3-hour Oral History interview with Wally! In his own words, Wally talks about his Belgian ancestry, childhood and teenage memories, his bands Downstares and The Basics, and much more. It’s well worth a listen.

THE BASICS HAVE A BREAK
October 3-6, 2013
Wally and The Basics have continued with their Aussie tour, rocking Canberra and Sydney with sell out club shows and Caloundra Music Festival early this month. Our own Jacqui was fortunate to get to the Sydney show, where she met fellow fan Chris Moffat. Check out her photos from the gig here. The guys delighted fans everywhere by hanging around for a chat by the merchandise tables and obliging with autographs and photos. They will have a small break from touring now, with their next run of festival shows kicking off on November 22 at Mullum Music Festival in Mullumbimby.

October 10 & 15, 2013
Gotye sampler/keyboardist and electronic musician Tim Shiel has just released an original soundtrack for brand new iPad/iPhone game Duet. What a way to combine his love of computer games and electronic music. Read the kind words Beat Magazine and Mess and Noise had to say about it and check out the whole album for yourself here. Tim also dropped in to the Triple R studios (where he still dj's occasionally) for a chat about the new soundtrack and touring with Gotye

THE BASICS TRAMJAMMING AND NORTHCOTE SOCIAL-JAMMING
October 9, 2013

Kris, Tim and Wally performed a spontaneous 3 song acoustic set at the Northcote Social Club today, where Remote Control Tourist Tim tracked them down and recorded their tunes. They then hurried along to the tram stop and boarded the number 86 tram to play a Tram Session for lucky commuters. What a trip along the streets of Melbourne that must have been!

WALLY JETS TO THE US FOR UNICORN HERDING AT PLAYBOY MANSION
October 27, 2013
With a rest in between The Basics gigs in Australia, Wally jetted off to the US for, amongst other business, a spot of unicorn herding at the Playboy mansion. After visiting Vegas, he joined friend and artist Alexa Meade and friends for some Halloween shenanigans, dressing in a questionable costume (was he a shepherd or a pirate?!). All was confirmed by a fellow party goer, actress Dominika Wolski, who explained that the ladies of the group were unicorns and Wally was their herder! Pics of the fun made it online and caused a bit of a stir amongst some fans - but are we right to question or make assumptions? We think it was all a bit of fun for a man who’s worked so hard. Party on, Wally!

The Basics have sent this newsletter where they officially announce what they had already hinted on the social networks: 'for the first-time *ever*' they are putting out a DVD/CD set: MY BRAIN'S OFF (AND I LIKE IT)

"Filmed on location at the Northcote Social Club, and carefully edited by filmmaker Ryan Gaskett under the close supervision of the band, this is the first-and-only concert DVD that The Basics have done. Mixed and mastered into an incredible 5.1 Surround Sound experience (as well as a great Stereo mix), this DVD/CD set takes you into the band room as if you were one the punters."

After the recent release of Duet, Tim Shiel, Gotye's live band keyboardist and synths, has revealed that he played his first gig as Telling along with Ben Abraham in front of some friends last night (Nov. 3). We are really looking forward to their new tunes. But for the time being, we can keep on delighting our ears with "Stella".

Ableton Liveschool has also uploaded Tim Shiel's INPUT presentation he did last August 10 on how he used Ableton Live in Gotye's live shows and on how he uses it as an instrument himself.

This week has started with a new release from Tim Shiel as well: a spring-themed tune for Feral Media's Spring EP called "General Practice" which you can download here

YUMMY BUSINESS MEETING WITH
DAMIAN TAYLOR
November  4, 2013
While waiting patiently for the release of Video Mirrors, featuring a remix of "Easy Way Out" by Damian Taylor, it seems that the Canadian producer is working with Wally. We hope that the meal at the vegan and organic restaurant La Panthère Verte / The Green Panther in Montréal will have nourished and satisfied their creative hunger.

November 9, 2013

Talented artist Sabah Ingvarsson has announced she has a spanking new website. You will probably remember her from the Tethered project presented little by little on this same page in a puzzle form, which revealed a delicate and elaborate art piece around the theme "heart" using Gotye's torso as a canvas and that you can admire again on "Natural Canvases".

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and describe their own live show set ups to Tim. Sounds like music nerd heaven to us!

BASICALLY, A BIG DECEMBER
December 6 - 20, 2013
There were a lot of happenings this month on The Basics calendar. The guys played several Vanda and Young Rockwiz tribute live shows, with the show in Sydney recorded, and to be televised in Australia in March 2014. They also released their new live cd/dvd My Brain’s Off (And I Like It) on December 6th, with a special screening taking place on December 12th at Melbourne’s ACMI.

Meanwhile, they were kept busy with gigs and festival shows, including Festival of the Sun on December 13th, where they were interviewed by The Au Review (video 1, 2, 3 & 4)  and by Music Feeds. They also played at Woodford Folk Festival, a clear favourite of the guys. Some lucky fans got to spend New Years Eve with The Basics at the Espy in Melbourne, for a big show to bring in 2014.

You can visit all the pictures we have been able to recollect as well as articles related to all these events in this photo album posted in The Basicettes' Facebook page.
