Gotyepedia>The Basics

If you are a relatively new fan of Gotye, then you probably also very recently discovered his other musical venture, The Basics. And what a discovery that would have been!

They are a three piece rock and roll band that was formed when Wally and Kris Schroeder met at a mutual friend’s party back in 2002. They bonded over a love for The Beatles and jammed to some rock and blues classics that night, which was the beginning of their musical journey together.

Initially an acoustic guitar/drums duo, they played around Melbourne and later that year invited Michael Hubbard to join them on electric guitar. Kris swapped to the bass guitar, and a trio was formed. They soon began performing songs with complicated three part harmonies, which was to become a signature of their music.

Tim Heath joined in 2004, after Michael Hubbard decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career, after apparently being the only person to answer an advertisement for a new guitarist, and the current line up was formed.

In 2013, after almost a three-year break, The Basics reunited, released Ingredients and Leftovers, with the new single "So Hard For You", and went on a national tour in Australia.
