Gotyeee-Beard
Somebody that we used to know
BEARDFACE SUPPORTERS AWAIT CHIN
& GRAMMY RESULTS

The Asian shows may have marked the end of 2 years on the road for Gotye, but recently, the success of this massive world tour has been shadowed by something much bigger.
Yes, forget the Grammys, and the Brit awards, the attention of the Gotye community has been completely focused on the new "chin do" that Wally has been sporting.
The beard has sparked a fierce debate on Twitter with calls of #Savethebeard & #Shavethebeard, and the occasional split hairs aka the #stubble supporters!
The result of the debate is expected later today, when Wally's chin is expected to make an appearance at the Grammy Awards accompanied by the beard - which leads us nicely on to other news.
We will also discover whether Wally has been victorious as we await the winners and losers at this year's ceremony, where Gotye is in the running for 3 Grammy Awards, at the award ceremony which is being held in LA.
The Grammys are the most coveted awards in the Music industry.

By the end of the night, Wally beat off stiff competition from the likes of Frank Ocean and Taylor Swift, to bag the much coveted Record Of The Year Award, again for STIUTK. And if 3 Grammy Awards were not enough, his prize was handed over by none other than music legend, Prince!

Twitter was a buzz with well wishes and congratulations, and soon after Wally rang in live to speak to Triple J's, The Doctor.
Our sincere and heartfelt love and congratulations to Wally, and all around him who have helped him achieve such fantastic recognition.

Accompanied by Kimbra, Wally first took to the stage to receive The Best Alternative Music Album Award for Making Mirrors. Directly afterwards, the pair scooped The Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, for STIUTK.

"SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW" WINS DOUBLE-PLATINUM MTV AWARD

February 13, 2013

Well, he did it AGAIN! The music video for THAT song, directed by Natasha Pincus, has been honored as the most-played video as part of the MTV video awards. That means, it's been aired more than 20,000 times across the VIMN International Media Networks' 60 MTV channels.

GOTYE IN CONVERSATION FOR SYDNEY
INDEPENDENT 2SER FM RADIO

February 14, 2013

Why be interviewed during 10 minutes (at the most) by David Letterman or Ellen DeGeneres talking Grammys for millions of people when you can spend the evening chatting in a cozy wine bar in Sydney in front of a small crowd of 80 people for one hour (i.e. 60 mins = 3,600 seconds)? It's clear Wally knows what he wants.

Oh, you couldn't attend? Worry not, as here's the podcast.

FRACTURED HEART BEATS IN CANBERRA

February 15, 2013

Wally has spent an evening in Canberra at the NFSA (National Film & Sound Archive) for the launch of the "Fractured Heart" presentation.

Back in 2011, Wally performed live at the ARIA Awards with this very unique backdrop. In a collaboration with Illuminart, they created an interactive sculpture, "that allows visitors to ‘remix’ Somebody That I Used to Know in real time, using their bodies to trigger sounds and light animations."
After an introduction by CEO Michael Loebenstein (where he was kind enough to mention us, even though logistically he was a little inaccurate!), Wally opened an evening of screenings and presentations of the Fractured Heart.
Visit the NFSA Facebook page, for lots of video & photos from the launch.

LEFTOVERS RELEASED!
February 24, 2013
On February 24, The Basics released another album.
If Ingredients wasn't enough to satisfy your appetite at the back end of 2012, why not grab yourself some Leftovers? As well as a few hundred limited edition vinyl copies, a digital download album with a whopping 38-track collection of demos and never heard before songs, as well as an alternative take on some more well known tracks!

'SOMEBODY' GLOBAL SUCCESS SECOND TO ONE!
February 27, 2013
He may not have bagged a Brit Award last week, but the figures are out for the top single sales last year, and "Somebody That I Used To Know" was second only to Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe." Even Gangnam style which surpassed STIUTK's Youtube views, came over 2 million behind in overall global sales.
It was good news for the music industry on the whole as there was a slight increase in sales, for the first time in over a decade.
Figures have also been released, detailing STIUTK's global chart positions since its release, and shows it climbing up the ARIA chart after Gotye's Grammy success.

FRIENDS WILL BE FRIENDS

February 9, 2013

Wally has traveled to LA to attend the Grammy Awards ceremony. Being there, a visit to his music tinkerer friend Diego Stocco was a must.

Diego gave Wally a little custom built present called luminopiccolo and both had heaps of fun together playing with a piano hammer on fire. Ah... kids!

The UK's Official Charts Company has confirmed what we pretty much knew already!

January 2013

Colour Bomb's tunes are promising.

Who is this? Well, that would be Telling!

SOME OF WALLY'S GOTYE BAND MEMBERS HAVE ALSO BEEN BUSY...

As well as Tim Shiel's Max Headroom slot on RRRFM, he has joined forces with Ben Abraham to form a new duo known as Telling. Checkout their cover of Bertie Blackman's Stella on Soundcloud.
And in probably the biggest highlight of Tim's career to date, his secret Tumblr account where he posts pictures of his face on boats is suddenly not-so-secret! Come and join in the fun!

Lucas Taranto has spoken to Novation about using their equipment on stage during the Gotye tour, and listen to Michael Iveson in this very frank interview - please be aware that there is some rather colourful language at times!

Colour Bomb have released their single "Beautiful Parade". James Saunders, who is one half of the duo, is also part of the Gotye 10-piece band.

And finally, Tash Parker - Wally's better half!! - has collaborated with Adam Dunning. The summery feeling single will be available shortly!

SO MUCH FOR A WELL EARNED REST!

It would be fair to say that we were wondering what Gotye news there would be to bring you after the end of the mahoosive world tour, with Wally keen to retreat back home and spend some quality "me" time with himself and his loved ones. Here we go, deep breath....

Wally has again been giving his time for some worthwhile causes. He signed some items to be auctioned off on Ebay in support of Music For Newtown. He has also returned to the studio, recording a cover of Quasimodo’s Dream, by The Reels with Perfect Tripod (ft. Eddie Perfect & Tripod) for the SLAM (Save Live Australia's Music). Wally is a SLAMbassador for this worthy cause. Find out more and purchase a copy here.

There have been a couple more radio appearances, one on ABC Melbourne, and another on ABC Sydney. Wally talks Grammy Awards & The Basics! There was also a discussion on RRR FM about community radio. He also joined Tim Shiel (more about him later) on his RRR FM slot to nerd out about all things vocal manipulation!

Wally penned a newsletter recently, giving us at Gotyettes HQ a giggle, and gave a run down on what has been going on recently in the world of Gotye. Everything from rubber chickens to bananas, The Basics, and the new "outside Oz" Merch store which is going to save some of us a tidy amount on postage costs :)

This month, Gotye also joined Spotify and shared his first playlist, titled "1112 Excellence Majestic Selection",  which compiled some of his favourite songs from 2011 and 2012.

STIUTK came second to Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe in global single sales during 2012. Wally has been participating in a little retail therapy, buying up some unusual musical instruments via Ebay, introducing us to chicken man and is on his travels again anytime, heading over to Calgary in Canada, & visiting the National Musical Centre.

Wally's latest contribution to a worthy cause, all in aid of SLAM

FURTHER RECOGNITION FOR OH YEAH WOW

March 30, 2013

Oh Yeah Wow’s time stop animated video for Easy Way Out has been been awarded the Prix "jury jeune" du vidéo clip". We have lost count of how many awards this wonderful video has received already.

WALLY'S WEEK IN MUSIC HEAVEN!

Late March, 2013

Wally is spending one week at the NMC, in Calgary, Canada. He is joined by legendary music producer Nick Launay, who has worked with the likes of Kate Bush, INXS and Arcade Fire.

Wally and Nick will have the NMC's vast collection of musical instruments and recording equipment to play along with, we can't wait to hear the results. Keep upto date with what's going on in Canada by following the NMC on Twitter, and photos of Wally at work on their Instagram! Also, watch what they have been up to in this video.

NOT THIS TIME!

March 22, 2013

He may have been up for 2 awards at the Winter Music Conference, International Dance Music Awards 2013, in Miami, but unfortunately there was no glory for Wally this time around.
STIUTK was nominated in the "Best Alternative/Indie Rock Dance Track" category, and Wally himself was nominated for "Best Break-Through Artist (Solo)", but the award went to fellow Aussie, DJ Tommy Trash.
