Gotyepedia>Gotye & The Arts>Art

    Sabah Ingvarsson

Anyone who has felt remotely magnetized to his music would not need me to explain that any further. Long story short, I decided to get in touch, share my views, and force-feed him some of my own work. I was pleasantly surprised to know he was quite interested in art and didn’t require any art lessons. (Although I did mention he could do with a few drawing classes and fix that smiley he uses.) But I decided not to let that deter me and hoped one day we could collaborate on a project together. Where and how? No idea.

Fortunately, a chance to do just that did arise and I started working on a composition that would bring both my aesthetic and his lyrical talent together. And this is what it came down to.
We all need a bit of sparkle in our lives do we not? Being an artist I'm always searching for the 'something' that would kick start some mojo for my next piece. And music has been my truest salvation. From my earliest memories of a 4 year old, feeling overwhelmed and crying to James Last's beautifully orchestrated symphonies, to present day mind blowing tunes. And speaking of mind blowing music, this is where Gotye (aka Wally to many) comes in.
I wanted to use words to form the contours of the heart and the arteries, but keeping it very monochromatic. The choice of text I had left up to the man himself, and he came up with something that was very befitting and complemented the image I had in mind. The idea revolves around an internal turmoil stemming against clichés, in an endevour to write a verse encompassing the word 'Heart'.

The photography was done by a dear friend of mine, Miles Standish, who was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to be a part of the project. You can see his lovely work here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/emaitchess/

This project will have some sister pieces and I'll be continuing with the same train of thought, and here's hoping they will be as rewarding an experience as this one.

Sabah is a fantastic artist based in Gävle, Sweden, whose delicate and intriguing designs cast a spell on us. We met Sabah through our fellow admiration for Wally's music and she has become a close friend and the greatest travelling partner. Living the life with Sabah is living the life with one of the most wonderful human beings you can ever meet. Check out Sabah's amazing work on her websiteher Flickr and her Facebook page, and contact her via e-mail.

We met Miles through Sabah and we got along very quickly. From his beautiful photographs to his love for music, Miles is multifaceted in numerous ways. He is a dedicated father of three and a lawyer by trade. But it's his love of photography which brings out the artist in him. You can connect with Miles Standish through Twitter (@mileshstandish).

Between long arm and back stretches, and Wally falling asleep halfway through (his sleep twitches resulted in a few do overs) we finally finished after seven hours. Wally was very patient and accommodating throughout, and overall it was great fun!
