Gotyepedia>Gotye & The Arts>Art

I am a Germany born, French Canadian, ex military brat currently living in the Montreal area. Art has always been part of my life, but nothing in a professional level yet for my own self content. For many years I did paintings and drawings for family members, friends, and of course for myself, but never have I done anything for someone I didn't know.
After being inspired by the sounds of Gotye's music, a breath of fresh air, he has opened my eyes and encouraged me to make some changes. It came at just the right moment as I was currently lacking self-motivation. Three weeks within discovering this brilliant man's tunes before his first show in Montreal of March of 2012, I just had to paint! So much so I needed to give it to him! Someway, somehow! Unfortunately, after the show I didn't get to see him, but I was lucky to have met and spoken to Lucas, the bass player, and with this kind man's gesture, he happily passed on my painting, "Gotyeye", to Wally.

After that March show, I was fascinated by his live performance and felt like painting again. After a few months of rethinking, I suddenly came up with my bucket list. Hopes and dreams I can look forward to in the future. Amongst this list I had "selling a painting to a stranger" and "donating a good sum of money to charity". Therefore, I thought of putting both into a project and I would donate any money collected from these Gotye inspired pieces to one of his foundations he supports, such as the Thin Green Line. This charity truly caught my attention, and in lights of all the signs and inspirations that brought me to this project, I chose this foundation to not only achieve a goal, but to help a great cause. A heart warming feeling.

Many great moments have happened throughout "My Gotye Experience". I got to communicate with great people, make new friends from around the world, be asked to have my pieces be part of a raffle which I just happen to support, be a guest blogger for a wonderful group, the Gotyettes, and speak live (part one & part two!) with people who share the same love for the very same talented man. It's brought so many people together, and that inspires me more.

I have not yet achieved my goals; therefore, the paint brush is back in my hand, and my passion prolongs. Therefore, to be continued!

Sonia has become one of our very closest friends since we first met her on Twitter last year. She always seems so modest, and we wonder if she knows just how good her work is!! To spend so much time and energy on a piece of artwork, and then to donate it to such a good cause shows how warmhearted she is.

We thank Sonia for allowing us to display some of her fantastic work here, and are proud to call her a friend.
