Gotyettes>Our Bios>Jacqui

Greetings fellow Gotye lovers!

Ok firstly to introduce myself, this is the official bit. My name is Jacqui and I live on the west coast of Australia in Perth. I am a married to Jason, my boyfriend/husband of (gulp!) 19 years. Yes, we have been together since we were toddlers, haha! ;) We have two little boys who are the loves of our lives and keep us very busy. As well as being a full time parent, I work part time outside the home and before we had our children, I studied business and accounting at college and worked in retail management.

I was lucky to see Gotye and his ten piece band perform at the amazing Belvoir Theatre in December 2011. I was blown away that night, sitting under the stars and gum trees as I watched and listened. So I created a twitter account just to follow Wally. As the story goes, I met my Gotyettes there and we have since forged a strong friendship. The Gotyettes rollercoaster never gets boring and I am loving the thrill of the ride with my lovely galfriends!

As with a lot of people, my earliest memory of music began with listening along to what my parents listened to. Luckily, mine had amazing taste! As they played their records, I would rifle through their sizeable vinyl collection, studying the covers from back to back and admiring their artwork and photography. I particularly remember being fascinated by the cover of the album, ‘‘Houses of the Holy” by Led Zeppelin.

The maternal side of my family is Greek, so my Mum played lots of Demis Roussos and Nana Mouskouri. I think she may even have that Demis Roussos LP that Wally finds in the thrift shop in his documentary! Time for another dig through the collection, I think! She also loved Cat Stevens, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Mama’s and the Papa’s and The Doors to name just a few.

My Father is Scottish and so Andy Stewart was a favourite especially after a few drinks. Anyone know the song, “Donald Where’s Your Trousers?”? I do very well! My Dad also loves good old rock n roll and the greats of Motown.

So back to me! As a teen I was never into boy bands or the pretty boys of music. Ok, there was that short time when I was 13 that I was obsessed with John Farnham and his mullet. Australians know what I’m talking about! But that was just a small blip in the radar.

I was a grunge girl, with metal tendencies and a small dose of electronic thrown in for good measure. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica and U2 made up the soundtrack of my teenage years. A dash of REM, the B52’s, Madonna (the first ever single I bought was ‘Like A Virgin’ when I was 10) and a few novelty type tunes (think Baby’s Got Back/ Stutter Rap) complete the picture.

It would be remiss of me to leave out my favourite musical shows. Of course the iconic Countdown was a firm family favourite in many Aussie households. Rage, Video Hits, Recovery and The Factory were all watched and provided the musical hit I needed over the weekend off from school.

I hope I haven’t bored you all too much! Please share with us your stories as well, as we would love to hear them. I will leave you now with a song that my beloved Bapou (Grandfather) used to have fun with. He has a wicked sense of humour and I share this with you for a bit of a laugh, enjoy! Hang in there till 2:25 if you can.... :)
