First, we would like to express how much fun we had reading this text. Also, we are very grateful to Lucy Eames and, especially to Steve Teakle, for having provided us with the pictures in this feature.

Barry Morgan is the stage name of Steve Teakle, a musician, comedian and organ salesman, worldwide famous in Adelaide who proposed the equally worldwide famous "one-finger method", a method that Little Tim (Shiel) seems to master too.  When we contacted Barry Morgan's management to invite Barry to participate in this section and tell us a bit about how he met Gotye, Lucy Eames told us "This sounds like fun", and it certainly has turned out to be so.

My goodness shoppers!  It was a bright sunny morning at the World of Organs Superstore in the Sunnyside Mall , Adelaide, Australia when Mr Gotye presented himself upon the plush pile carpet of the shop.

I knew he was someone special from the moment I set eyes upon him.  I said to myself “here’s a man who’s got big fish to fry” and I could sense that I would be a part of that fry up.

After spending many years searching for a very rare and highly coveted organ, Mr Gotye had decided it was time to seek help from an organ specialist like myself.  The organ in question was a Yamaha EX42.  This picture shows its magnificence...
The touring experience was absolutely sensational – first class.  I’ve never stayed in 3 star before let alone 5!  My goodness that $65 burger and chips at the Hyatt was worth it!!!!!

We did all the groovy things on tour with Mr Gotye like throw the Frisbee, play table tennis, listen to vinyl records and make vegie juices backstage.  I’ll be looking forward to the yoga class next time.

Let me tell you how proud and emotional I was when I found out that opening night was in my hometown of Adelaide.  The hometown crowd went crazy and were obviously pleased to see me there with Mr Gotye.  I thought to myself – “don’t just entertain Barry, but educate” so I ran them through my one-finger method lesson and had the whole stadium practicing my world famous method before that groovy drummer Michael tapped us in and away we went with “State of the Art.”

By the time I got back to the World of Organs Superstore at the end of a whirlwind tour, the whole band and the crew were sporting Barry t-shirts and were heading out after the shows to share my one finger method with unsuspecting strangers. Mr Gotye has been particularly fond of his and has been spotted all over the world wearing his BM tee.

So to Mr Gotye and all involved, I thank you for such a wonderful experience as I sit behind the typewriter in my World of Organs Superstore and wait for the next star to come through my door.

Oh gotta go!  That looks like Beyoncé and her big burly bouncer browsing the floor.

Bye shoppers.

X Barry

The next thing I knew I was getting a phone call from upstairs. Yes rock n roll management wanted me – Barry Morgan the mild mannered organ salesman from the suburb of Adelaide – to tour the stadiums around our nation with Mr Gotye.

I learnt his song, State of the Art, which shows off all the specialties that the Lowrey Cotillion has to offer. I happened to have in stock the little cousin – the Lowrey Teeny Genie – so a duet was played with the 2 organs.

I knew this occasion called for my salmon velveteen suit. I had been saving it for my special day at the altar, which alas has not happened yet – but that’s another story.

The magnificent Yamaha EX42. This and all other photos on this feature kindly provided by Barry Morgan & Lucy Eames.

Mr Gotye and I jammed it up in the shop, shared some freshly tinned pineapple sandwiches and I made a commitment to go on the hunt to find him an EX through my trusty organ networks.

Here we are on the day of the delivery  – look how happy he is!
